Articulture, in partnership with other leading outdoor arts agencies in England, Ireland and Scotland, are offering bursaries for emerging performers and companies interested in creating new outdoor arts performance pieces.

The project will allow early career artists, and those new to working outdoors, to be mentored through the creation of new outdoor arts pieces, which will be toured to festivals in all four nations during the summer 2024.

This year we are particularly interested to receive applications with ideas for mobile, moveabout and walkabout work.

Applicants will need to be available of all four festivals, which are:

Surge Festival (Glasgow, in partnership with Articulation) 19th – 21st July 2024
A festival in England TBC (in partnership with Outdoor Arts UK) 26th – 28th July 2024
Spraoi Festival (Waterford, Ireland in partnership with ISACS) 2nd – 4th August 2024
Green Man (Wales, in partnership with Articulture Wales) 15th – 18th August 2024

The chosen artists and/or companies will be given a budget of £5000 for the creation of the piece, and £100 per person/per day for performance days, professional mentoring, plus a four-day residency in Waterford (Ireland) in February 2024.

Travel, accommodation and per diems (or equivalent) are provided for both the residency and the performance tour.

The application deadline is midnight on Wednesday 10th January 2024.

If you are based in Wales and have an idea you would like to discuss, please contact Zoe Munn at Articulture by email zoe@articulture-wales.co.uk or by text, phone or WhatsApp on 07939 052899 .

We can arrange a meeting with one of the Articulture Wales producers to talk through your idea before you make an application, and arrange any assistance that you might need to apply.

There are certain requirements we expect from you, so you should check these before you apply:

  • You need to present an idea for a new small-scale outdoor arts piece, static or moveabout
  • The piece needs to be for 1-3 touring artists (all artists must be confirmed by applicant before applying).
  • The piece needs to be of a scale that is easily transportable.
  • The piece needs to be suitable for presentation in urban and green field spaces.
  • You need to be available for the residency in Waterford, Ireland between 25th – 28th February 2024
  • You must also be available for a certain number of week-day mentoring dates between March and July 2024 (exact dates to be agreed)
  • You will need to be available of all four festivals

The 4 Nations Bursary Project values diversity and promotes equality and inclusion. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and ability. The 4 Nations Bursary Project is an artist development opportunity and bursaries will be awarded to applicants from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.

To apply, email your proposal (max. 500 words) and one short bio for each performer/collaborator
(max. 100 words each), in one document, to zoe@articulture-wales.co.uk
, or send a video or audio recording.

Please note that the scale and reach of this project is dependent on certain funding outcomes.
